This novel is about a sixteen-year-old girl named Hazel Grace Lancaster. Hazel is a cancer patient, she has thyroid cancer that spread to her lungs. She is forced by her parents to join a support group. Until later on, she doesn’t realize that joining the support was the best thing of her life because she meets a boy name Augustus Water, who she later on falls in love with. Augustus is an ex-basketball player. Why ex? Well, Augustus is an amputee, his osteosarcoma caused him to loose a leg. The title, The Fault in Our Stars, was inspired by a scene from Shakespeare. Cassius told Brutus, “The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlings.”
According to an eighth grader, “I love The Fault in Our Stars because it’s such a romantic book but it’s not an ordinary romantic book. Did I mention that Gus and Hazel have cancer? They do and that is what makes it so special.”
